Why in the browser?

Modern browsers ship the same video decoders a desktop editor uses. Doing the work locally means your files never leave your device, there is no queue to wait in, and the tools keep working offline once the page has loaded.

When you need a server

A browser tab has limits: very long recordings, very large files, HDR tone mapping and batch runs are better handled by a machine that can take its time. Those jobs go through the server pipeline, which is what the paid plans cover.
